My Thirteen Favorite Picture Books

Note: This is the original first post of 600+ that have been published on The Little Decorator since 2012. In 2020, I updated or deleted many of those old posts that were part of the learning curve of blogging. These posts now reflect the quality of writing I hope to give my readers every time they visit this site. Thirteen-year-old Madeline did a great job with the time and resources she had, and now it's time for twenty-something Madeline to shine. :)

I must begin my blogging journey with a list of my favorite picture books. Reading is a passion of mine, and it inspires me in the areas of decorating, imagination, and art. These favorite books are in no particular order because to quote Ever After, "I could no sooner pick a favorite star in the heavens."

1. Roxaboxen by Barbara Cooney

2. Bunny Bungalow by Cynthia Rylant

3. Lentil by Robert McCloskey

4. The Duchess Bakes a Cake by Virginia Kahl

5. The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton

6. Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess

7. Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney

8. How to Make an Apple Pie and see the world by Marjorie Priceman

9. The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig by Eugene Trivizas

10. The Three Pigs by David Wiesner

11. Cranberry Thanksgiving by Wende and Harry Devlin

12. So You Want to Be President? by Judith St. George

13. A New Coat for Anna by Harriet Ziefert

I did my thirteen favorite picture books because that is one for each year of my life. These books are witty and charming for all ages. Most have moral values that praise work ethics, imagination, kindness, or family.

I will be sure to visit your blog frequently, Madeline.

I am also looking forward to our special time together -- we'll be sure to do a lot of "decorating talk".
