Wood

Let's play a game. Which is cozier: a room full of sleek, white, pristine furniture, or one with a variety of textures like jute rugs, woven baskets, and wooden legs?

"Why, Madeline, the one with the wood, of course. I don't want to live in a laboratory!"

Of course you don't! So, how in the world do we incorporate these woody textures? Here are some ideas:
  • Wooden (or wooden-looking) trays
  • Clothespins
  • Logs in a fireplace (real wood, please!)
  • Woody picture frames
  • Wooden benches
  • Wooden coasters
  • Wooden chair
  • Wooden door
  • Stump table
  • Jute rugs
  • Woven baskets
  • Wooden legs on furniture
This is not to say all your décor should be wood. Far from it! I simply want you to think about incorporating a few woody textures into your décor to make it feel homier.

Why does wood make our spaces homier? It basically just makes them feel less like a pristine décor laboratory and more like nature.

Action point: Bring something woody inside. It can even be a few dry branches that you get from your backyard and stick in a jar.

I hope y'all are taking action. There's no point in reading if we aren't taking some sort of action, am I right?

  1. I have several wood pieces (trays, bowls) and I agree, it adds warmth to a room!
