Book Review & Giveaway: The Dating Manifesto

Last month I read The Dating Manifesto by Lisa Anderson, and I promised a review to my newsletter subscribers. I love the subtitle of this book: A Drama-Free Plan for Pursuing Marriage with Purpose.

I gave this book four out of five stars in my mind. It is geared for people in their 20-40s. It takes a very Biblical view of dating and relationships, which is why it's not talking to teenagers.

     Teenagers,

You don't need to date him. You don't need to obsess with him. If you're high school or younger, this applies to you for sure. If you're not ready for marriage, you're not ready for dating.

Because dating is getting to know someone to see if he is potential husband material. It's not just to have fun or to hang out.

Do your best not to make enemies with guys, but remember that most guys, if not every guy you meet, is someone else's future spouse.

Remember to protect his heart. True love is putting someone else's needs before your own. You wouldn't want girls flirting with your brother, so don't flirt.

The girl's job, especially in middle school and high school, is to wait patiently. Romance will come in time, but you're too young for it right now.

20-40s people (who this book is actually geared toward),

This book is for you whether you're in a relationship or not. This book is for you whether you're a tomboy or princess. This book is for you whether you've grown up in the church or not. There is grace here. You can be anyone, and this book is for you.

Girls and guys. College kids and spinsters. You have hope, and you have a future. This book never really said anything I disagreed with. It made me think about my friends young and old who could benefit from it.

The author is in her 40s I believe, but she is still single and still hoping to get married. I have so much respect for her. She hasn't given up on the dream God has put in her heart. She reminds me a little bit of one of my favorite single bloggers, Annie F. Downs

I highly recommend this drama-free book with realistic expectations, good stories, and plenty of Scripture-based content.

Here's where you can buy it:

But before you buy it, take a chance and win it. Comment on this post, and I will randomly select a winner over the weekend and announce it Monday, August 10th.
     Good luck!

  1. Thank you for the wise insight that a guy could very well be someone else's (or your own!) future spouse. Great to keep that perspective as you protect his heart, as well as your own!

This literally brought me to tears because of my inner struggle with my singleness. Just last week, I was at one of my weakest moments and prayed that God would remove the desire for my own family because the pain was has been so strong lately. This post reignited my hope that God will someday bless me with my own family. Thank you Madeline for allowing God to use you mightily in the lives of pthers. Love you sweet friend, mature beyond your years.
